Dear Families,

It is hard to believe how far we have come since the first YPI camp was held at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, in 1981. Over those 27 years, more than 2,500 young people from 23 states and six countries have joined us to share and develop their talents in writing, art, dance, music and drama.

As the Principal of Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School and the Director/President of YPI, working with young people has been the center of my life. YPI is the most rewarding part of my summer. Year in and year out, I continue to be amazed by the talent and energy campers bring. Young people who have discovered art, writing, music, dance, computers and acting suddenly blossom in YPI’s nurturing environment. Many of our campers have gone on to rewarding careers in the arts — some have even returned to work at YPI. Our dedicated Master Teachers guide creative youth to heights they never imagined. YPI provides an encouraging and stimulating environment for young artists, writers and musicians. Ask any camper —

YPI is more than a place—it’s a state of mind.
