Screenwriting (Week 1 Only)

This workshop will introduce young people to the fundamentals of story structure and writing specifically for the screen. Students will work on character development, story arc, and dialogue, with a focus on rewriting and work-shopping. By the end of the week, each student will have completed his/her own short film script. This class also teaches the art of pitching, and at the end of the week, our young screenwriters will pitch their scripts to each other and vote on them. Several of the chosen scripts will be produced by the production class during week 2. No production experience is needed for this class. This is a great change from previous years for our young writers to focus on writing good scripts without being involved in production. Start thinking now, and feel free to bring your original scripts and ideas to YPI!

Film Production (Week 2 Only)

Students will learn how to produce, shoot, direct and edit. Working in teams, they’ll produce the chosen films written by the Week 1 class. They’ll cast their projects, scout locations, film them using state-of-the-art equipment, and edit them together for a screening at the end of the week. Participation in Week 1 is not required.
